"I grew up in the Bay Area, land of oak and pine-laden hills. Thanks to the verdant surroundings, the natural world became my best friend. Waking up to deer in the backyard and raccoons raiding the trash garners a deep love and respect for animals (however annoying). I also loved animation and spent many hours watching the Banana Splits, Kimba, Speed Racer and Star Blazers. Basically I am one of those cartoon-loving kids who never grew up."
"This was inspired by the the book The Secret of Roan Inish, which deals with the Irish myth of the selkies: half human, half seal-like creatures. Imagine what selkies deal with under the waves."
"Part of the animation game is to draw, sketch, draw some more. This life drawing sketch captures a lion in action...before he lies down for a nap."
"Character designs for The ImagiNation Network's CyperPark MUD game. Users logging on to play would meet these fellows in the Medieval Castle section of the Park."
"Anyone who attended high school knows someone like this."
"Syrupy sweet animal designs make me want to vomit. A character's design should compliment its personality, not overshadow it. Ultra-cutesy types are not necessary to garner sympathy from an audience and usually induce an opposite reaction."
"I enjoy drawing naturalistic character designs of animals which show personality. Films like Animal Farm and Watership Down prove such designs succeed without losing the spirit of a character."
"My version of Ralph Bakshi does Tex Avery."
